Cleaning
It's important to keep your new piercing clean.
🩷You can make up a mixture of salt water - approx 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt to 1/2 pint of hot water. This works best with hot water - not boiling water.
🩷Soak a cotton pad with the solution and gently place it over the piercing for 5 minutes to allow the pores to open.
🩷Pour the remaining solution into a clean container that is a suitable size for your piercing site - such as a mug for navel piercings, or an egg cup for eyebrows or ear lobes etc.
🩷Soak the piercing in the liquid for 10 minutes making sure the water is still warm. This draws any of the impurities or trapped fluid out of the piercing.
🩷This can be repeated a few times a week to heal a piercing, or twice a day for treating problematic piercings.
EXTRA STEPS
Even though you have kept your piercing clean, there are other factors that can cause healing issues.
🩷Clothing aggravation - items of clothing rubbing against the new piercing
🩷Not using the suggested aftercare products
🩷Any contact with unwashed hands or bodily fluids
🩷Trauma to the piercing site
🩷Your diet, lifestyle and immune system can all have an effect on your healing process
🩷In a small amount of people there is the potential that your body may reject or grow out a piercing naturally
🩷 Swimming pools, jacuzzies and saunas may cause irritation - try using a Tegaderm or Mepore Patch which is designed to keep the area dry and clean
🩷Avoid sprays, lotions and shampoos coming into contact with your piercing
🩷Keep your piercing dry at all times other than the cleaning process
🩷Complete your aftercare for 6 weeks continuously

Navels, Nipples and Christina Piercings
These piercing sites can be amongst the hardest to heal due to irritation from clothing and lack of air.
🩷If crust forms on the jewellery it should first be soaked off with clean warm water.
🩷 A small amount of antibacterial soap should then be lathered over the piercing and left on for a few minutes.
🩷Rinse of thoroughly with clean water - preferably in the shower.
🩷For best results this should be repeated for no more than twice daily.
🩷The most common irritation for navels in clothing irritation - particularly waistbands should be kept off your piercing at all times.
🩷Try to avoid aggressive exercise and sleeping on your stomach.
Ears, Nose, Eyebrow, Outiside Lip and Cheek
Facial and ear piercings can be harder to soak. Cleaning them after a bath or shower will make the process easier.
🩷Wet a cotton bud with the salt and water solution and soak around the piercing and jewellery, making sure to remove any crust formations.
🩷When totally clean, dry the area with a fresh cotton bud.
🩷Repeat this process 1-2 times daily.
Tongue, inside lip and cheek
Oral piercings need different methods of care as they are located inside the mouth.
🩷Use an antibacterial mouthwash which is alcohol free and can be used undiluted
🩷It should be used after everything you eat, drink or smoke/vaping until the piercing has fully healed
🩷Expect some swelling - this is totally normal, and the piercing will be large enough to accommodate this
🩷Sucking on ice can help reduce swelling
🩷If you are worried about the amount of swelling or the jewellery starts embedding please call in to store to chat to your piercer
🩷For the first few days, eating might feel like a bit of a challenge. Try soft foods such a soups and yogurts before moving up to tougher foods. Try to avoid hot and spicy foods at this stage
🩷It's helpful to change out to a new toothbrush with your piercing as your old one might be harbouring bacteria.
